Oh, Christmas Tree and Other Things We’d Like to Proclaim
This year’s Christmas tree is the perfect embodiment of our second Christmas in a pandemic. It is closer to death than a “live” tree of ours has ever been, releasing hundreds of needles with every interaction. For years, we’ve bought our tree from the local police department’s tree lot that supports sending kids to summer camps. It always felt like a win all around.
This year, the lot was filled with a different type of tree than we usually get. The needles were long, maybe four inches and the circumference made many trees appear wider than they were tall. We managed to find a few trees with shorter needles, the kind we sort of remember from years past. It has a bald spot on the back which didn’t bother us much since we always place our tree in a corner.
